My Thoughts on Embroidery

When I was sewing all the masks to donate or sell for $2, I learned how to embroider on a sewing machine. You might think you can only embroider by hand, but you actually just electronically plug a design into your machine, and the machine automatically embroiders the pattern. It is completely effortless to embroider with a sewing machine, which is why I could give away so many masks. I imagine making jewelry with the right tools can be as effortless as, having your cool aunt take you to her hobby farm to see some expensive stallions, or embroidering flowers onto a mask with an uploaded design on your machine. I always thought it would be fun for my aunt to bring one of her hobby farm horses to a carnival so children would have the pleasure of feeding them carrots. My aunt and uncle adore Lolly Pop farms too! https://www.lollypop.org/

Fan Mail

I truly adore receiving kind notes and fanmail. ANYTIME any of my lovely readers feels the need to let me know their innermost thoughts, feelings, and ideas, please feel inclined to personally contact me. I just received the most beautiful letter from a fan, and now I am going to send them a sample of shoe insoles I was given that are a fifty dollar value, not that I would throw fifty one dollar bills in her face! Lucky lady writing me fanmail, making a girl feel special. It makes me feel good about opening up and blogging more lately. Especially, as I am having my book edited to be published, probably before I have more letters after my name following grad school. Should my author name be Maddie without any degrees listed? Or should I wait and list everything as formally as possible? There are decisions to be made. Perhaps knowing I have and will have others is good enough, and I do not need to share that part of myself with the world of runners whom I have a run book to give in the near future; in ten years I want to make my students read about my running career. Connecting with others valid emotions helps you grow as a person spiritually, all feelings are valid in all forms of expression. Perspective is everything. Sometimes I look at things clinically, or sometimes I look at things personally with compassion, sometimes things have no idea how I look at them and it is really funny.

On dates sometimes, I enjoy remarking, “Did you get it all off of your chest?” Then, I laugh as they become more emotional, or feel compassionate and become helpful. Most times in life, there is a rational very logical solution to everything regarding personal matters. Take three deep calming and relaxing breathes. There have been times when my date was upset, and it was not that they were upset with me, I just needed to give them the opportunity to express those feelings. In some of the best relationships you can create in life you feel both devastation and joy, as well as everything in between. When I helped one of my best friends and mom suffering from cancer in highschool, after she passed away the end of our junior year, I knew she would be emotional, it was not a personal problem with me and it is really something difficult to live through; the best thing you can do is tell stories of lovely memories or be consoling. Since the day before kindergarten we have been more like sisters than best friends, and we live very close to each other. We both went to Disney World together, and ate chocolate covered bananas walking around Animal Kingdom, in matching hats; instead of the Paris school field trip that spring break. Endure the powerful times, and then having a special activity together is important. Emotional times are a powerful stress, to embrace and welcome in the front door, as is pain whilst running a marathon. You cannot marry someone who only likes you in run buns and spray tan during a 4.0 semester, you need someone who will be there for tears and you failing a class too, and feel the same for them. I have zero shame in admitting that. Bounce back balancing good and bad. I really do enjoy connecting with readers, it is fun for me when it happens. Running really is one of the best metaphors for life, at least for me as a runner.

Injury Recovery

A few years back, I fractured my third metatarsal on my left foot, very very badly. I could feel it wiggling as I swam, however it could have been mistaken for tendonitis while on a run, that fracture made me feel so uncomfortable. The doctor said it looked like someone took a hammer and broke it, my last appointment with him was a Boston Marathon date, I was supposed to run; I strongly disliked my doctor for purposely making that my appointment, maybe it can be funny now. Who wants to be at an appointment with their orthopedic specialist the day of their world major? My rule was to take off my ginormous walking cast every night before bed so it would not scratch me or kick me in the nighttime. My only girl rule for that thing, throw it off before having tea and going to bed reading my french literature.

That cast was my favorite thing to take off stripping, there’s something extra about it. So extra, I stripped off that cast before unbuttoning the shirt and throwing off the pants. Afterwards, I lathered on all the tantalizing eucalyptus lotion, which is why I loved stripping that thing off so much; massaging on all the lotion in circular motion with my fingertips and my nails. Oh god yes, it felt so very good to strip that off every night. Then, I would just lay in bed looking at my pillar candles and decorative flowers whilst reading my french literature.

I either have highs or lows, with no inbetween, but that’s what made me have such a great sense of humor. Roll with it, laugh it off later on. I could run on the foot fine six months later, if anyone was wondering about my recovery timeline for that particular injury. Just another battle wound, my coach always tells me… The human body is designed to adapt to injury, so never feel like it’s career ending to break a bone. You can break bones, and donate blood, and still run sub-6-minute-miles continuously for hours, find comfort in knowing that.

When my injuries healed, I graduated to wearing supportive and well deserved blue Bean Boots. I highly recommend indulging in the luxury of these supportive boots, and a Camelbak water bottle. Hopefully, I stay uninjured.

Personally, I do not have foot drop, however this wonderful product was just brought to my attention. I realize a lot of my readers happen to have AFO’s and other braces to help with foot drop, so I thought perhaps this is helpful to share. This is designed for an active personality, to help remedy foot drop. There are a lot of videos and helpful information on saebo.com

Why I Love Pillars so Much?

Back in the day, my fun guy to date, told me that when I finally studied abroad I would have to go see L'église de la Madeleine. He loved that my name was the same as this cathedral, and told me all about the 52 pillars for the 52 weeks of the year. He said he would take me by the hand and bring me to Paris to see it one day. Young love is the best kind. Here I am years later still waiting, perhaps after the epidemic. In the meantime, no random guy can come along and ruin our love for pillars in Paris by trying to steal our thing. We wanted to make a gingerbread house back then, with 52 candy canes as the pillars of L'église de la Madeleine, maybe that will happen someday too. My gingerbread houses have not been intricate enough to do justice for the L'église de la Madeleine. Gingerbread houses are actually our special thing we did dating, he never really thought about them before me. So funny, I’m giggling letting everyone know ways to pick up a girl named Madeleine on a good day. Maybe, I’ll run the Paris Marathon, I’ll probably have someone french braid my hair before the next marathon to the very least, add some satin ribbon. I love having satin ribbon in my hair when I run, it’s my thing. Attractive for a runner…. what is it?

Between the Madeline books, and the name of L'église de la Madeleine, my speaking french as a second language, of course he wishes Paris had happened to this day.

My best french memory, was a party at our professor’s house. I brought a chocolate pizza, and chocolate fountain, we had horderves, and decided to donate our entire french club budget to The Catholic Relief Services whilst watching La Belle et la Bête. One time I had an entire event, with great anticipation, and only my professor showed up. The only club event that I could get anyone to go to was making valentines for soldiers in French & English with foam heart stickers, we mailed out hundreds of valentines, and some of those who came were my friends from outside of the club for the sake of the event. The things a guy has to accomplish to receive a valentine these days… That chocolate party was a hit I suppose; big decisions were made amongst the five of us and I got to be president of a club. Thank god, all I have to do now is read french literature for pleasure in spare time.

Coolest Club Ever.

We physically cut out all of these hearts from poster board! Some soldiers had an excellent Valentines Day that year, all because of this lady gang of french extraordinaries. Lots of rounds of coloring, to finish all of them.

My Domains

You know, it may be more appropriate for me to have my two domains, when my run book is published. However, I enjoy writing my interviews and journal, plus earned stripes to have my name as a domain; in the meantime. Whenever, I feel otherwise, I look at sillier bloggers or check in with my cool aunt. I don’t really care what platform we own them with, but I have all my things to go with my career. I think what I actually do is bigger than the websites, and the domains complement the career, they are not the career. The blog is certainly helpful for fundraising and connecting, but I could change my image and be fine with it. I would just do it with my hair in a french twist, a nice suit, and very nice heels on, not speaking but pointing to what will make me pleased.
