Ten smooth miles in the books for today. Tomorrow will be a touch longer and earlier to beat the heat. πŸƒ

I have to tell you these are a couple of the most amazing races that I have ever watched. Wow. These are such impressive elite times, it is hard to believe these women could run so well in the heat. Emily Sisson looks like she’s about to win two gold medals this summer!😍

Battles until the end, I am so enthralled and amazed by these athletes!

I love love love Victorian Sponge Cake with Vanilla Bean Butter Cream Frosting. I just chopped up more of my fresh Naverino strawberries and baked another cake for my family tonight. Yes, less extravagant than the others, nevertheless this naked cake is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend Madegascar vanilla beans for everything! 😍

Happy to say that I have executed my mileage the last two weeks and hopefully this weekend that mileage continues to happen for me. I have been praying to God to be back out there in the marathon this year, fingers crossed! 😽

Adding to my 5 mile run tonight, my sister and I also walked the Creek Walk today with Reece's cold brew coffee in hand. Downtown Syracuse was bustling and fun. After our walk we bought some gourmet cheeses from Samir's and enjoyed a delicious bite at Dinosaur BBQ whilst sitting outside with the perfect breeze. So happy to be out and about with covid dissipating. πŸ˜„

Another long run this morning is in the books. Happy to fit in my mileage. πŸ˜„

Hopefully, I will be running and traveling on weekends soon. It is so hard to throw out high mileage while being uncertain if the Marathon will actually happen in the fall. My poor knees after all my training if I never have my race. Every runner has injuries and races that are canceled, but I feel so pathetic trying to run a certain time with covid out to get me. At the same time, this could be that year I finally run my world majors. Then again, I have seriously thought I would run NYC and Boston after all these years of marathons, for the past three years especailly including this one and it has not happened yet. 😭 Something I have gained from running aside from a sport or mileage milestone, is focus. πŸ“š I really think that running made me smarter and better with memorizing content, because it gives me so much time to reflect on things I learn. Running totally makes your brain sharp. 🍎

I really enjoyed my long run this morning, I went out to a wooded trail and through my favorite park twice! Running into a family-friend whilst ordering coffee five miles into my excursion, I thought he was joking about me picking up sticks along my route after last night’s big storm, but I ended up actually moving a lot sticks and an entire tree! I always think about cyclists when I see sticks on the side of the road, or anyone really. You never regret preventing injuries moving things out of the way on trails or roads, plus no one wants to walk in the mud on the side of trails; slippery and dangerous. After 10 miles, and stick patrol, I treated myself to some Poland Springs water and a Red Bull to β€˜give me wings’ for the last few miles in my stretch (thanks for the $10 dadπŸ˜‚). You can never run too many miles in Marathon training, it feels good to be back in shape and running & running all the miles. 😊

It is so important to eat and drink when you run a lot. During my 15 mile run today, I needed to stop and eat or have coffee or more water. If you are going to burn an extra thousand or more calories you need to eat bagels and have mineral water with electrolytes. Food and water is definitely standard for athletes! I hope no one on the blog ever runs for three hours, feels starving and like they cannot eat or drink anything, the idea of that is morbid as everyone should have plentiful nourishing provisions for running.πŸ˜‰ My well seasoned adult male cardiologist always tells me to eat carbs with gluten, and drink tons of electrolytes (fancy water), baisically my prescription to run every day. My cardiologist and I are huge on splurging for spring water with electrolytes, he also says coffee is vital for heart health as they prescribe me gourmet coffee or expresso as well. All competent male doctors in the most prestigious specialties of medicine like cardiology or neurology, will tell runners to eat and drink everything they want to in order to stay healthy. The coffee thing is real for me, there was a time my heart rate would never go over 40 and caffeine really helped get me going! My sister is the opposite, caffeine makes her heart race, but my heartrate is so low I need caffeine; Midodrine is the medication I used to take to raise my heartrate and blood pressure three times a day for years. Having air conditioning helped my blood vessels stay fit to keep my blood pressure up, as compression socks help with too. I used to have syncope because of blood pooling, low blood pressure and a low heart rate. Coffee, compression socks, AC, eating and drinking are big components for all us marathon runners. Plus, the smell of coffee opens your lungs up. Drink coffee and eat carbs. β˜•

Loved our lovely day with Knapp Winery.

I am pleased to be sticking to my mileage plan and so looking forward to being in real races with people socializing with food & music & fun drinks! I keep envisioning myself toeing the starting line😊

I have always been a really big fan of Allyson Felix and truly loved watching her latest unbeatable feat in USA Women's Track & Field. Very inspiring to see her make another Olympic team. 😍

Carving sponge candy is truly a two ulu procedure. This is the most sensational candy to have melt in your mouth, and lathering coats of chocolate onto the fabulous bubbly sugary goodness makes it even better. Mine and Barbie's homemade take on sponge candy is not quite Watson's but very delicious nevertheless. Now, I appreciate the Watson sponge candy being carved into perfect cubes, as mine inevidibly ended up in all sorts of shard shapes. I had a wonderful time making this recipe!
